FAQ

To better prepare you for your appointment, here are some tips and answers to questions frequently asked to our team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do injections hurt?

In general, the injections cause very little discomfort, because the needles used at the clinic are very small.

How many appointments are needed to get rid of varicose veins?

It depends on the extent of the disease and the response to treatment. Every patient is different. First, the medical evaluation including Doppler ultrasound will allow to analyze the stage of the disease and the type of treatment indicated. Then, it will depend on the response to treatment. In general, several sessions, spaced 3-4 weeks apart, are needed to eliminate the majority of varicose veins and spider veins. It should not be forgotten that venous disease is a progressive disease, and that maintenance treatments are often necessary.

Why do I need an ultrasound if I only have small spider veins?

The Doppler ultrasound performed by the doctor during the first appointment allows the stage of the disease to be stratified and the problem to be targeted correctly. It is not rare that we discover significative venous insufficency behind small varicosities, thus explaining their appearance and sometimes, their persistance and tendency to recur even after several superficial treatments. That is one of the reasons why ultrasound is needed before any treatment. In the best case scenario, the deeper veins will not be affected and only the small veins will need to be treated with surface sclerotherapy. If larger veins are affected, also known as "feeder veins", they will need to be treated first to target the source of the problem. Otherwise, if the guilty veins are not treated, the treatment of the associated smaller veins will not be effective.

How can I prepare for my appointment?

Tanning should be avoided before the sessions as it reduces the visibility of the veins to be treated. You should also avoid putting on cream on the day of your appointment and favor wearing loose clothing.

Are there things I should/shouldn't do after my injections?

It is recommended to walk at least 20-30 minutes/day after your sessions. However, you should avoid overly intense exercises as well as exposure to heat (spas, saunas, long hot showers, etc.) after treatments. Travel (prolonged sitting) and the sun should also be avoided for 4 weeks following treatments.

Will the treated veins come back?

Since venous insufficiency is a progressive disease, new varicose veins may appear over time. Therefore, regular monitoring is recommended.
